Early Morning Car Crash Claims Driver’s Life
Raytown, MO – A resident called police just after 1:00 a.m. Monday morning (January 04, 2016) to report what looked like a car on fire on Raytown Rd. at about 85th St. The first officer to arrive found the scene of a crash involving a car that had overturned and was fully engulfed in fire. Before crash investigators arrived, the first officers on the scene discovered debris from the crash spread for about a block or more. The car had been traveling south on Raytown Rd. and the first signs of an apparent crash were noted just north of 84th St. The car came to rest at 85th St. The driver, trapped in the wreckage, was dead by the time officers and firefighters arrived. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, but the first officers at the scene felt confident that high speed was a likely contributor to the destruction they found. No other car was involved and it appeared that the driver was alone in the vehicle. An investigation to identify the driver was also incomplete early this morning.
