National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day nets 568.4 pounds of pharmaceuticals in Raytown
Raytown, MO – At the end of the National Drug Take-Back Event today, the Raytown Police Department collected 298 pounds of excess pharmaceuticals from the two collection sites in Raytown. Officers and volunteers manned sites at Kenagy Park and City Hall parking lots so that the community could just drive up and dump their unused medicines. Another 270.4 pounds had been collected at the Drug Take-Back collection box at police headquarters over the past six months. All of those medicines were turned over to an agent of the DEA a little after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon when the event ended. The Drug Take-Back initiative provides a safer means to dispose of medicines, preventing them from accidentally falling into the wrong hands, or from being flushed into the water supply or dumped into a landfill where they become pollutants.
